Bhogi
The first day of Sankranti. Old things go into the Bhogi bonfire (Bhogi mantalu) at dawn, and in the evening children are showered with Bhogi pallu.
Makara Sankranti
The Sun enters Makara — the biggest harvest festival for Telugu people. Muggulu with gobbemmalu, Haridasus and Gangireddulu at the door, pongali, and kites.
Kanuma
The day after Sankranti, to thank the cattle. Cows and bullocks are washed, decorated and worshipped, and families share a feast.

Why is the date different in the USA?
A festival is kept on the day whose sunrise falls in the right tithi. Sunrise in America comes about 10 hours after sunrise in India, so the tithi at sunrise can differ and the festival can fall a day earlier or later. Always go by your own city’s date.
